Coastal Villages

DEVELOPMENT OF STRATERGY

1.Visual assessment of landscape pattern for each village, including historic and current aerial photos.

2. Conduct community consultations (as part of Stage 2) to define key components of village character.

3. Map each component, or rural character indicator utilising GIS tools.

4. Overlay the rural character indicators to create a composite map.

5. Use the composite map to develop character statement for each village.

The FNCRS promotes a settlement pattern which:

Protects environmental values and natural resources while utilising and developing the existing network of

major urban centres,

Reinforces village character, and requires efficient use of existing services and major transport routes,

Ensures that sufficient land will be made available for employment purposes and community facilities.

+ internal consultations (infrastructure, NRM etc.)
