SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

STRENGTHS

The locals all know each other, providing community closeness, recognition & awareness.

Provides a safe environment.

Provides a peaceful environment.

WEAKNESSES

Burringbar's secluded locality brings community isolation and lack of accessibility.

Low population affects local economy/trade.

Limited public attractions.

Lack of employment opportunities in local area.

Vacant buildings - lack of business, poor local economy.

Lack of public transport (except for school bus).

Lack of accessibility to/from highway, reducing tourism in area.

OPPORTUNITIES

Establish Tweed or Burringbar produce as a brand. Farmers could value add: eg: macadamias are harvested in the area but transported elsewhere to turn into butter, etc. This could be done onsite instead.

Potential for new businesses, eg: farmers markets.

Better utilisation of existing built forms eg: community hall could be used more often for educational classes, cooking classes, exhibtions, etc.

Public park could be used for more communal and tourist activities.

Create a niche market around the unique character of the town. For example, the Harnett's cheese tasting tourist attraction.

THREATS

Members of small communities typically don’t like change.

A lack of change leads to a diminishing town.

A lack of infrastructure such as public transport reduces the ability for some people to live there.

Growth of surrounding towns can inhibit the growth of Burringbar unless Burringbar grows with them.
